LEWISTOWN -- Mifflin County football battled against Lower Dauphin on Friday in an attempt to pick up their third victory of the young season. Mifflin County fell short as Lower Dauphin walked away with the 20-14 win.
The first quarter ended with no scores from either team. Going into the second quarter, Lower Dauphin put the first points on the board with a 40-yard field goal. Mifflin County answered back with a 37-yard touchdown pass from signal-caller Landen Eichhorn to Landon Haigh, the PAT was good.
Lower Dauphin's Tyler Persing returned a second-quarter kickoff for a 90-yard touchdown. Gerald Sanders ran the ball for a Falcons' 15-yard touchdown. Falcons' Brandon Fritz finished up scoring with a field goal, leaving the first half 20-7.
"They don't run a lot of stuff but they run it well," Huskies head coach Shane Breon explained. "They got after us a little bit on the offensive line. It wasn't for lack of effort."
The Huskies (2-2, 0-1 Mid-Penn Keystone) came back strong on defense; they did not allow Lower Dauphin to score in the second half. The Huskies did not score in the third quarter, but gained yardage. Parker Kearns was able to put another Husky touchdown on the stat sheet with a 15-yard pass from Landen Eichhorn, and a PAT from Isaac Parks-Gill would be counted as the last points of the game.
"First half, we gave them some points. We gave them that kick return. That hurt us," Eichhorn said. "We just have to execute better and the game could've gone differently."
The Huskies visit Palmyra next week. The Falcons (3-1, 1-1 Mid-Penn Keystone) will host Red Land in Week 5.
