LEWISTOWN -- After digging themselves into a large first-half deficit, the Mifflin County Tomahawks mounted a furious comeback that fell a few points short in a 34-32 loss to Williamsport in Great Eastern Football Association action at Kishacoquillas Park Saturday afternoon.
On the Tomahawks' opening drive, Lashawn Brown threw a touchdown pass to receiver Timmy Beck. Mifflin County went for two, but the attempt was unsuccessful. James Sweeting answered with the first points for the Wildcats (4-3). Williamsport's two-point attempt also failed as Arthur Brown knocked the ball down.
Junior Taylor had an eye for the end zone as quarterback Hasson Brockman found Taylor twice in the game. Taylor was the main target in the first half.
Elliot Walker found the endzone once against the Tomahawks (4-2).
Brown had a rough game throwing five interceptions. He did find Beck and RJ Buford in the endzone three times.
Kyle Kahley had a few strong runs; however, he left the game with an injury. Teammate Jonathan Dodson filled the shoes of Kahley.
Brown ran for a touchdown late in the game, cutting the lead to 10. The Tomahawks had a total of nine drives in the game, while Williamsport had seven drives.
Defensively, Mifflin County's Darion Lopez was a stalwart and picked off Wildcats quarterback Jordan Bell late in the game.
The Mifflin County defense was also stellar in the second half as Williamsport was held scoreless. That helped the Tomahawks' rally as they went on a 20-0 run.
Brown would find Bulford for a late touchdown, but Bell sealed the game as he connected on a pass with Walker to end Mifflin County's comeback hopes.
Two-point conversions plagued the Tomahawks in the game as they were successful on only one of five tries.
Mifflin County hosts the Snyder County Spartans Saturday.
