LEWISTOWN -- Although our name has changed, our direction and goals are the same: to provide quality, fun, and affordable tennis instruction to beginner and advanced beginner children and adult players in our community.
MiffCo Community Tennis, a USTA Provider, has been at work for 12 years creating tennis opportunities for Brownie and Girl Scout Badge work, church youth group and block parties, whole class tennis lessons for elementary children who demonstrated focus and good behavior during state testing. This also goes for Lewistown Elementary School Field Days, programs at the YMCA, Sacred Heart School, Lumina Center, and Body and Soul Community Center. The USTA even donated equipment to accompany Grace United Methodist Church on a mission trip to Gilgil, Kenya. With the donated supplies and program manuals, Trinity Mission School in Gilgil, Kenya will be able to start a high school tennis team.
Three USTA certified youth tennis coaches are a part of our staff, as well as one Tennis Pro (Professional Tennis Registry), Level 1 Beginners and Advanced Beg ) Our latest endeavor was three people trained to coach blind tennis. We will be conducting that program this summer.
Tennis has grown a lot over the last couple of years and more coaches are needed to join our group. A free online course entitled "Coaching Youth Tennis," along with Safe Play clearances, can get you on your way to joining MiffCo tennis. You don't have to be a professional tennis player to do this. The children's program is based on fun and movement and the lessons are outlined in detail for you. If you are interested in becoming a coach or would just like to help out as MiffCo grows, contact miffcotennis@gmail.com.
