LEWISTOWN -- Mifflin County got to witness not only a 77-26 victory over Hershey, but a new all-time leading scorer in Marissa Gingrich.
Gingrich became Mifflin County's all-time leader and that includes both girls and boys basketball.
"It was a good team win," Huskies coach Aaron Gingrich said. "I thought our girls came out very aggressive on both ends of the court."
Marissa Gingrich came into this game with 1,300 points trailing Eleana Eckley who had 1,327 points which she set back in 2018.
Gingrich nailed a big three ball late in the third quarter to tie the record at 1,327. Then, the big moment came early in the fourth quarter when Gingrich found herself in the corner. She drilled another shot from beyond the arc which pushed Gingrich all the way to first place on the Huskies scoring list.
After the game, Marissa was very proud of the accomplishment and was appreciative of everyone who supported her along the way. Gingrich scored 30 points on the night to go along with her seven rebounds.
"It truly means a lot considering my grandfather did it. My dad did it and my aunt did it," Gingrich said. "So they all were leading scorers. It really means a lot to my family for everything I've worked for and my teammates... everything."
Amelia Leister played a major factor on both sides of the ball throughout the game. Offensively Leister found herself open and taking advantage of when Gingrich was being doubled and made some massive shots. Leister dropped 16 points in the home victory.
Defensively, Leister led the charge and put pressure on the Hershey offense creating numerous turnovers throughout the night. Leister had four steals and collected five rebounds.
"I think tonight was definitely one of my better games," Leister said. "I was able to hit more shots than I normally do and was still able to find open shots for my teammates."
Another big component for the Mifflin County defense was the efforts of Aija Binder who grabbed the boards and collected rebounds which created several second chance opportunities for the Huskies.
Binder also forced turnovers as well by getting two steals for the night to go along with her five points.
"One of my roles on this team is to get boards and help out with assists," Binder said. "I was able to get the boards and pass the ball back out to our shooters. I did that a decent amount of times today and that really helped put points on the board."
As a team, the Mifflin County defense held Hershey to single-digit scoring in all four quarters of the game.
