UNIVERSITY PARK -- The Penn State men's basketball improved to 6-1 on the season with a 70-57 win over Lafayette at the Bryce Jordan Center on Friday night.
Penn State used a stellar defensive effort and its sixth game with 15 or more assists to take down the Leopards. Offensively, Jalen Pickett's 18 points and eight assists topped the squad, while his 70 percent effort from the field was his most efficient outing of the season.
Seth Lundy scored 15 points of his own on 5-for-10 shooting and led the team with seven boards, while Camren Wynter (11 points) used a 3-for-5 performance from behind the arc to help him become the third Nittany Lion in double figures in the ballgame.
Defensively, Penn State held the leopards to just 31 percent from the field. In the second half, Lafayette connected on just 23.3 percent of its field goal attempts and allowed Penn State to cruise to the victory.
The final minutes saw the Nittany Lion debut of freshman Demetrius Lilley as Penn State was able to cruise to a 70-57 win.
Penn State moved to 4-0 at home to start the 2022-23 season.
Penn State shot 8-for-16 from three in the first half. This is the first time the team has shot over 50 percent from three in a single half since shooting 60 percent in the second half against Loyola Maryland on Nov. 10.
The Nittany Lions held Lafayette to just 31 percent from the floor, 10.6 percent less than their 41.6 percent season average. This the second straight game the team held an offense below 40 percent from the field after holding Colorado State to 32.8 percent last Sunday.
Three players tallied double-figures in the game tonight, while Jalen Pickett (18), Seth Lundy (15), and Camryn Wynter (11) all notched solid scoring efforts.
Penn State turned the ball over just eight times in the game, recording two less than their season average of ten.
Lundy recorded seven rebounds, leading the team in rebounds for the third time this season.
Senior+ Myles Dread is currently shooting 52 percent from three-point range this season including splashing three or more triples in four of his first seven games this season.
With 11 in the game today, the Nittany Lions have knocked down double-digit triples in six of their seven games this season.
Senior+ Jalen Pickett led Penn State with 18 points on 70 percent shooting from the field, including a 2-4 performance from beyond the arc. He added six rebounds, eight assists and a block to his scoring line to lift Penn State over Lafayette. Pickett's 70 percent mark from the field is his most efficient mark of the season.
Pickett has scored double digit points in five of his first seven games this season, and leads the team averaging 15.1 points per game.
This season, Lundy has scored at least ten points in six of seven contests for Penn State. He's scored 15 or more points in three of those games.
The Nittany Lions have recorded 15 or more assists in six of their seven games this season after achieving that mark in just six games total last season.
Penn State travels to Clemson, S.C. for a contest against the Tigers of Clemson in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
