Seals rally to beat Juniata

By Anthony Fiuza 2 min read

SELINSGROVE -- In their first meeting since 1979, there was no shortage of big plays as Selinsgrove topped Juniata 17-14.

In Friday's non-conference football game, the Indians (1-1) got a pair of 2-yard touchdown runs from senior Waylon Ehrenzeller in the first half, guiding the visitors to a 14-0 halftime lead.

Freshman safety Jasper Shepps cut a Selinsgrove drive short with an interception of Seals' quarterback Mark Pastore at the 10:49 mark in the second quarter.

Then, it appeared as if Selinsgrove would not be a denied a trip to paydirt late in the quarter. However, the Seals would fumble on a designed run play. Then, Juniata's Aaron Kanagy had a pass go off of the finger tips of Ehrenzeller on the very next play of the game, which fell into the mitts of Selinsgrove's Caleb Hicks.

Juniata tallied 10 first downs in the first half. Meanwhile, the Seals were limited to just three chain movers.

Ehrenzeller bullied the Selinsgrove defense for 55 yards on seven carries.

But, in the second half the Seals got a 63-yard touchdown run and 34 yard field goal from Carter Young.

Then, after Gavin Bastian picked off a pass, the Seals(2-0) marched down the field with Bastian capping off the drive with the eventual game-winning score.

Notes: Pastore would exit the game in the second period after getting sacked. He did walk off the field.
