Mustangs gallop over Benton, 2-1

BENTON - Midd-West went on a run for victory in its season-opener against Benton for a 2-1 road victory on Friday.

Midd-West's Becca Yount knocked in the eventual game-winning goal 10 minutes into the second half.

With five minutes remaining in the first half, Rachel Keister passed the ball to Chloe Sauer, who drilled the first goal of the year for the Mustangs.

Teaghan Bardua scored the lone goal for Benton.

Midd-West's Rylee Weaver tallied 10 saves, including one on a penalty kick in the second half.

Lions roar in shutout win

McAlisterville -- Juniata Christian won its first game in grand fashion by blanking Grace Prep, 3-0 on Friday.

"We played really well. It was a good way to start the season. Our offense played really well and our defense kept a clean sheet so I'm happy. Hopefully, we can build on this throughout the season," Lions head coach Jean Marie said.

Clay Brubaker scored the first goal of the game for the Lions and Alejandro Flores tacked on a pair of goals. Anderson and Avery Portzline each tallied an assist. Flores added an assist as well.

Huskies finish 4th at Valley Green

GOLDSBORO -- Mifflin County golf showed some grit on the course and earned a top-4 finish at Valley Green Golf Club on Friday.

Mifflin County placed fourth in the golf match with a mark of 337, which is the team's second lowest score of the year. Mechanicsburg was first with a 319, Red Land shot a 327 and Palmyra had a 328.

Carlisle was fifth with a 347, Bishop McDevitt 367 and Cedar Cliff 381.

The Huskies (12-6, 12-6 Mid-Penn) were led by Blake Stringfellow's 81. Dominic Weyman added an 84, Bryson Bubb 85 and Jaron Yoder 87. Jackson Flood collected an 87. Ryan Hine and Colby Seiler each posted an 89.

"This is the first time since I've been the coach that all seven golfers shot in the 80's," Huskies coach Aaron Bubb said.

The Huskies will host East Juniata, Newport and Millersburg on Monday at Lewistown Country Club.
