Zook leads Belleville to win; Strodes Mills falls twice

BELLEVILLE -- It should have been 'Brett Zook' day in Belleville on Sunday.

The 15-year-old sparked Belleville to an 11-1 win over Strodes Mills in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League.

The win improved Belleville's record to 9-5 and pushed the Big Valley club into third place.

Zook went 2-for-3 with a double, scored two runs and had five RBI's.

Belleville pounded out eight hits in the 10-run game, which ended after six innings.

Strodes scored its only run in the first inning, but its lead was short lived as Belleville came right back with two in the bottom of the inning.

Belleville's Elijah Kanagy had his team's only RBI in the first with a single. Strodes MIlls committed two errors in the inning that allowed the other run to score.

In the second, Belleville scored three times thanks to Zook as he doubled with the bases loaded making it 5-1.

Belleville added two more runs in the third and put the game away in the fifth as it scored three times with Zook picking up two more RBI's with a two run single. Noah Sharp drove in Belleville's other run with a base hit.

The game ended in the sixth as Kaiden Yoder reached on an error and scored Belleville's 11th run on a base hit from Hayden Yoder. Hayden Yoder was Belleville's only other multiple hitter with two.

Hayden Yoder was also Belleville's winning pitcher. He went five innings and allowed three hits. He struck out five and walked four. Jake Ross pitched the sixth for Belleville.

Strodes finished with four hits, Aidan Arnold, Ben Moore, Chase Moore and Kole Strawser.

The game was held up for 45 minutes for rain.

Lewistown 8, Strodes Mills 7

LEWISTOWN -- It looked like it was going to be an easy win for Lewistown.

But Strodes Mills had other ideas.

Lewistown led 8-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Strodes scored six runs to make it a one run game before losing, 8-7.

Strodes scored six runs on just two hits. Lewistown gave up five walks and a hit batter. The big hit for Strodes came from Aidan Arnold, a two run double. Kole Strawser had Strodes only other hit in the seventh.

Lewistown's Chase Hartung threw the first six innings. He gave up just five hits, struck out nine and walked two. and picked up the win.

The winner's had nine hits with Jeremiah Partchey and Jaylen Bowersox each getting two.

Partchey had a double in the second inning, went to third on a ground out by Reese Hine and scored when Dom Morgan reached on an error.

Bowersox, who had a double in the sixth inning, had what turned out to be the winning hit with an RBI single in the seventh.

Strawser, a rookie, was the only multiple hitter for Strodes with two.

Partchey, the Lewistown catcher, threw two runners out at second.

The last time Strodes dropped a doubleheader was on June 16, 2019 to Belltown,

Lewistown Foxpro 10, Howard 6

HOWARD -- Lewistown scored three runs in the sixth to clinch a 10-6 in over Howard in Centre County League baseball action Sunday.

After opening with a four-run first, Howard tied the game in the second. Lewistown scored six runs across a three-inning span, more than enough to hold off the home team.

Isaiah Kearns picked up the win, fanning nine Howard batters. Conner Cherry faced the final three batters in relief.

Evan Pupo had two hits including one of three Lewistown doubles and drove in three runs. Cherry had a pair of two-baggers in his two hits, plating two. Kearns was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and the fourth Lewistown double.

A.J. Scheffel and Mark Shilling Jr. also had multiple hits as Lewistown recorded 15 in the game.

Lewistown travels to Blanchard for a doubleheader Saturday, with the first game getting underway at 10 a.m.
