MECHANICSBURG -- Danny Dietrich had been shut out of victory lane at Williams Grove Speedway for almost two seasons.
The track point leader took care of business Friday night as he scored the sprint car feature win and $6,000. His 26th career Grove victory was his first since July 31, 2020.
"It's been a long time," Dietrich said. "We've had so many good runs and finished second a bunch of times. It feels like forever since we stood here in front of this crowd. We want to win as much as we can and we feel like we have a lot of speed."
Dietrich, of Gettysburg, started on the pole in the Gary Kauffman No. 48 racing into the lead over Kyle Moody and Anthony Macri.
The former track champion led by over 2-seconds with five laps completed. He began lapping slower cars as Macri closed on Moody for second.
Dietrich 's lead was over 5-seconds but he started to struggle a bit in traffic.
"That might be some of the most difficult traffic I've ever raced in," Dietrich said. "Hard to believe on such a big track like this that lapped traffic was so close together, especially the last seven laps or so."
Macri passed Moody for second. Brent Marks passed Aaron Bollinger for fourth and then Moody for third as they raced in heavy slower traffic.
Macri and Marks cut into Dietrich's lead over the final 10 laps. It was down to 1.8-seconds.
Dietrich caught more slower traffic with six laps to go. Meanwhile, Macri and Marks had cleared traffic.
Macri was only a few car lengths behind with four laps to go, but then lost ground as he developed a problem with the ignition. Marks took advantage and drove into second.
On the final lap, Marks made contact with a slower car in turn one. He did a 360-spin and kept going. Macri kept going and passed Marks back.
Dietrich's final margin of victory was 3.18 over Macri.
"I know I'm tired of running second," Dietrich said. "I was getting a little aggressive with the lapped cars without being too aggressive.
Coming to the white, I was able to slide two cars, and I figured that was the winning moment."
Marks, Freddie Rahmer, and Moody completed the top five. Devon Borden raced from deep in the field to finish sixth. Lucas Wolfe, AaronBollinger, Tyler Ross and Justin Whittall rounded out the top 10.
Danny Dietrich, Kyle Moody and Aaron Bollinger won the heat races for the 22 cars.
