SELINSGROVE -- The Short Track Super Series for the modifieds opens the new season at Selinsgrove Speedway. The race is set for Saturday afternoon, March 19.
Selinsgrove hosts many special events throughout the season featuring many different divisions of racecars. In particular, the late models and 305 sprint cars are a big part of the schedule. The first 410 sprint car race at Selinsgrove is set for Sunday afternoon, March 27. The limited late models and roadrunners join the sprint cars.
The Ray Tilley Classic for the sprint cars at Selinsgrove is Sunday, April 24.
Selinsgrove's first Thursday Night Thunder program is May 26, featuring the 410 sprints, late models and 305 sprints.
The next Thursday night Thunder show is June 15 and this features the wingless USAC sprint cars and the winged 410 sprints.
The Jim Nace Memorial 40th Anniversary National Open concludes the season on Saturday, Sept. 24. A National Open preliminary race will be held Friday night this year as well.
The Bloomsburg Fair Raceway is in its second year of operation and features a host of special events throughout the season. Opening night in Bloomsburg is set for Thursday, April 14, featuring the 360 sprint cars. The All Star Circuit of Champions sprint cars make their first ever appearance at the track on Thursday, April 21.
Williams Grove Speedway hosts regular sprint car racing on Friday nights featuring the 410s and 358s. Opening day is set for Sunday afternoon, March 13, while the first Friday night race is March 18. The World of Outlaws come to the Grove three times for a total of six races including Morgan Cup Weekend in May, the Summer Nationals in July and National Open weekend at the end of September. The 60th Annual National Open pays $75,000 to win.
BAPS Motor Speedway features the super sportsman on Saturday nights, along with numerous special events for the sprint cars during the year.
The annual Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek kicks off Friday night, June 24, at Williams Grove followed by Saturday at Lincoln and Sunday at BAPS. The sprints head back to Lincoln on Monday, June 27 and then onto Grandview Speedway on Tuesday. Port Royal Speedway's first Speedweek race is Wednesday night, June 29, followed by Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway Thursday. The Mitch Smith Memorial at Williams Grove, the Greg Hodnett Classic at Port Royal and the Bogar/Opperman/Heintzelman Memorial at Selinsgrove complete the grueling 10-race Speedweek schedule.
The sprint car season kicked off Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Speedway where Freddie Rahmer picked up the win. It was his first career opening day win and first win in the Rich Eichelberger-owned No. 8. Lincoln returns to action Saturday afternoon at 3.
A few highlights from Lincoln's schedule includes the Steve Smith Tribute race paying $19,000 to win on Saturday, June 4, and the annual Dirt Classic paying $20,000 to win on Sept. 17.
