HALIFAX -- The dynamic duo of GG Ortiz and Austin Derr led the second half offensive surge as Juniata defeated Halifax 44-34 in a Tri-Valley League boys basketball game Thursday.
The Indians were outscored in the first half 22-17. But then in the third quarter, Juniata scored more points in the period than it did for the entire first half with 18 points in the frame.
The Indians outscored the Wildcats 27-12 for the second half.
Juniata was led by Derr who scored 16 points while Ortiz added 10 more points for the Indians.
Juniata hosts Line Mountain on Monday.

Mifflin County at State College High School Invitational
UNIVERSITY PARK -- Mifflin County competed in the State College High School Invitational at Penn State University Thursday evening.
For the boys, the Huskies were led by Caden Kauffman and Josiah Sechler each scored themselves a first place finish with Sechler winning the long jump at 21 feet and 3 1/2 inches while Kauffman finished third in the same event at 20 feet and 3 3/4 inches. Kauffman took first place in the high jump at six feet flat.
On the girls side, Mifflin County was led by Kylee Cubbison placed first the girls one mile run with a time of 5:07.19 and second in the 3000 meter run at 10:30.98.
East Juniata's Logan Strawser came in second place during the boys 3,000-meter run event with a time of 9:03.06.
Mifflin County returns to Penn State on Feb. 16.
