Surge in 2nd half lifts Juniata to victory

MILLERSBURG -- A second half surge carried Juniata to victory over Millersburg by the final score of 42-38 in a Tri-Valley League girls basketball game on Friday.

Juniata was down 30-27 going into the final quarter of the game where Juniata had scored 15 points in the frame while holding Millersburg to just eight points. Mackenzie Bennett and Regan Lowrey came in with some clutch free throws as the duo combined for eight of 10 shots from the foul line.

Bennett led the Juniata offense with a game high 15 points for the evening. Ava Shearer added another 12 points.

Juniata hosts Halifax on Monday.

Cedar Cliff 65, Mifflin County 42

CAMP HILL -- One quarter made all the difference, as Mifflin County fell to Cedar Cliff 65-42 in Mid-Penn Conference girls basketball action Friday.

"I thought our girls played very hard," Huskies coach Aaron Gingrich said. "Cedar Cliff is a very good team with several talented players."

The Huskies struggled in the second quarter of the game where they were outscored 22-6 in the frame and just could not recover from it.

"We played with a lot of effort but did not execute well enough against Cedar Cliff's full court clutch and grab defense," Gingrich said.

Marissa Gingrich led Mifflin County with 15 points for the evening and Kate Knable added another 12.

Mifflin County (2-2) will host Lower Dauphin on Monday.

Meadowbrook Christian 35, Belleville Mennonite 34

MILTON -- After leading for most of the game, a massive fourth surge from Kailey Devlin carried Meadowbrook Christian over Belleville Mennonite 35-34 in an Allegheny Christian Athletic Association girls basketball game on Friday.

The Thunder were up 26-17 after three quarters of play when Devlin went off offensively. Devlin scored 12 of Meadowbrook Christian's 18 total points in the frame. Devlin led Meadowbrook Christian with 26 points.

Belleville Mennonite was led by Chloe Renno who scored 12 points while Karina Renno had 11 points with nine of those points were from beyond the arc.

Belleville Mennonite will host Juniata Christian on Tuesday.

Jacee Cunningham was the high scorer with 15 points. Mifflin County also won the JV game 32-11 as Jayda Kanagy leading the team with 10 points.
