Lions to play for ACAA title

BUCKHORN -- Peyton Burd put Juniata Christian on her back and carried the Lions past Johnstown Christian 5-0 in an Allegheny Christian Athletic Association girls soccer semifinal match on Friday.

"This is a great win for the girls and our soccer program. We played well in the first half, but could not score," Lions coach Todd Taylor said. "Peyton and Annika (Martin) took control in the second half and we scored 5 goals in about seven minutes to secure the win. Our defense had another quality game with another shutout.

"We can not wait to play Northumberland Christian (today) in the ACAA soccer tournament finals."

All of the goals that Juniata Christian scored was in the second half with Burd scoring four of those goals. The other goal was driven in by Reanna Hoover.

Juniata Christian (14-5) will meet long time rival Northumberland Christian in the ACAA finals today at Columbia County Christian.

Altoona 4, East Juniata 3 (OT)

ALTOONA -- East Juniata was down but not out forcing overtime before Altoona scored the game winner in OT defeating the Tigers 4-3 in non-league boys soccer action Thursday.

Jake Brackbill scored all three goals in the game for the Tigers.
