MECHANICSBURG -- Anthony Macri has 410 sprint car wins all over Central Pennsylvania, but a win in the most powerful of sprint cars at Williams Grove Speedway had eluded him.
The 22-year-old from Dillsburg changed that stat Friday night as he earned $5,500 for his first career 410 sprint car win at the historic speedway.
"This win means more to me than some of my other wins," Macri said. "It's really cool and means a lot to win here coming here as a kid, and always dreaming of winning here."
Landon Myers won the opening 10-lap heat race to earn the pole for the 25-lap sprint car feature. Chris Arnold had a three-second lead in the second heat race, but crashed hard racing off turn four with two laps to go. He was OK. Dylan Norris went on to win that race earning the second starting spot.
Norris grabbed the lead over Myers and Doug Hammaker in the feature. Macri was quickly into fourth from the seventh starting spot.
Norris increased his lead to more than tow seconds while Macri took third from Hammaker. Norris caught the slower car of Steve Downs, but couldn't get around him. This allowed Myers and Macri to close.
Myers took the lead from Norris in turns three and four leading with 10 to go and Macri grabbed second. He ducked under Myers in turns one and two the following lap grabbing the top spot.
"I knew we had a good car from the beginning," Macri said. "I could roll the bottom where the other guys were depending on the top. I could maneuver around better than those guys. I think we got into clean and I ran the top in three and four and passed (Myers) on the bottom down here. My guys worked hard. We had to change motors after the heat race. We'll take it."
Meanwhile, Lance Dewease was up to fourth from the 13th starting spot.
Close racing in turn one between Devon Borden and Freddie Rahmer resulted in Rahmer's car flipping wildly over the first turn fence stopping the race with seven to go. Rahmer walked back to the pit area.
Macri controlled the restart and pulled away. Norris jumped the cushion in turn one and Dewease got by. Dewease raced inside of Myers taking over second with two laps left.
Macri scored the win by 1.4-seconds over Dewease, who increased his already large point lead.
Jim Shuttlesworth has helped make Macri a consistent contender no matter where they race.
"He installed confidence in the team," Macri said. "He never really gets down and always keeps pushing and works hard. He gives me a good racecar and the two of us really click when it comes to the race track and working in the shop."
Myers, Norris and Hammaker completed the top five. Danny Dietrich, Aaron Bollinger, Jared Esh, Borden and Matt Campbell rounded out the top 10.
In the 40-lap main event for the World of Outlaws Late Models, Max Blair and Gregg Satterlee led the field to green. NASCAR cup series point leader and Knoxville Nationals winner Kyle Larson started sixth in the main event.
Satterlee grabbed the lead over Blair and Chris Madden. Larson, who won a sprint car race at the Grove earlier this year, was up to fourth after taking the spot from series point leader Brandon Sheppard.
The yellow flew with six completed.
Madden raced into second on the restart and Larson into third as Sheppard lost numerous spots after jumping the cushion.
The yellow flew again with 10 completed.
Satterlee controlled the restart as Larson took second from Madden as they raced off turn two. Larson briefly challenged for the lead, but Satterlee pulled away leading by 1.6-seconds at the halfway point.
Satterlee caught a trio of slower cars at the back of the pack with 16 to go. Larson quickly caught him. They passed two of the three cars as Larson was right there. Satterlee was on the bottom as Larson tried the top.
With less than 10 to go, the lead was down to three car lengths, but Larson jumped the cushion in turn one and Madden got by.
Satterlee had three cars right in front of him with Madden closing, but Larson slowed bringing out the yellow with four to go.
Satterlee, of Rochester Mills, controlled the restart, but the yellow flew with two to go. Dan Stone, who was running fifth, stopped in turn four.
He was smooth and straight off the bottom groove again. He'd pick up his fourth career Outlaws win and $10,000. It was his third career Grove win.
Madden, Kyle Hardy, Rick Eckert and Matt Cosner completed the top five. Sheppard, Ricky Weiss, Blair, Shaun Jones and Tyler Bruening rounded out the top 10.
Madden set quick time over the 27-car field with a lap of 19.550. Blair, Sheppard, Hardy and Larson were in the top five. Madden won the opening heat race. Blair won the second over Larson. Sheppard won the third heat. Boom Briggs won the Last Chance Showdown.
