ASTON--The Mifflin County Babe Ruth 14-year-old All-Stars had one bad inning and it was a costly one.
On Saturday, Mifflin County lost an 8-6 game to 21st Ward, Roxborough in the opening game of the Pennsylvania Babe Ruth 14-year-old state tournamnet.
It will play its second game in pool play today at 5:30 p.m. against Drexel Hill.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first inning, but Mifflin County ran into trouble in the second. Roxborough scored seven runs on three hits, three errors and a walk.
Mifflin County made a come back in the bottom of the inning scoring four times. The inning opened with Mifflin County drawing three straight walks. Trevor Miles was hit by a pitch that drove in one run and Calin McKnight walked with the bases loaded.
Aidan Attivo had an RBI single to center field and Mifflin County's fourth run scored on an error.
After the seven inning second, Brett Zook came in threw five scoreless innings and had nine strike outs.
Mifflin County scored a single run in the fourth cutting the score to 8-6.
"I felt we had early game nerves," Ray Hoppel, the Mifflin County manager, said, "It took us a few innings to find our confidence."
Mifflin County finished with five hits, all singles from Hayden Yoder, Grady Hoppel, Miles, McKnight and Attivo.
