BELLEVILLE--The streak continues.
Beaver Springs ran its 2021 Mifflin County Babe Ruth record to 8-0 and won its 24th consecutive game, downing Belleville, 11-5, on Tuesday.
The Springs now need just three more wins to take over fourth place in the league record books. Burnham won 26 in a row back in 1995-96.
On Tuesday, the man of the hour for Beaver Springs was Garrett Leitzel. He not only pitched the Springs to victory, but he also played a big part in the offense.
Leitzel went four innings, gave up one run, four hits, struck out eight and walked one.
That was not the whole story for Leitzel on the mound.
In the third and fourth innings, he picked off three men in row at first base crushing any hopes of a Belleville victory.
With the bat, Leitzel had two doubles and drove in four runs. His big blast came in the fourth with the bases loaded made the score, 8-1.
Caden Wolfley and Birch Harvey each had three hits for the Springs. Two of Harvey's hits were doubles, while Wolfley had a lead off homer in the third innimg to right field.
Belleville finished with six hits with Landen Eichhorn getting two. Hayden Yoder had a triple in the second.
The Big Valley club scored four times in the fifth on one hit, four walks and a hit batter.
One bright spot for Bellevile was that its two second year pitchers, Brett Zook and Yoder combined for 11 strike outs against the defending league champions.
After Leitzel worked his four innings, Cole Keister had a rocky fifth, but Aiden Everly closed the game by giving up one hit, no runs and one walk.
Lewistown 13, Milroy 6
MILROY--Lewistown (7-2) beat Milroy, 13-6, and continued its hold on second place.
Lewistown's Chase Hartung and Jaylen Bowersox combined for a five-hitter for Lewistown. Hartung pitched the first three innings and got the win. Bowersox closed out the game and finished with a flurry with eight stirke outs.
The winners finished with 11 hits. Deakon Schaeffer led the way with three, including a triple. Ryan Hine, Doug Weaver and Bowersox each had two. Weaver and Bowersox each had doubles.
Milroy picked up five singles from Hunter Marks, Riley Winkelblech, Hayden Feltenberger, Brayden Stitt and Korey Treaster.
Strodes Mills 12, Reedsville 5
LEWISTOWN--Strodes Mills' Aiden Arnold pitched a complete game as he helped Strodes Mills beat Reedsville, 12-5.
Arnold went the distance striking out four, walking none and giving up 13 hits.
Reedsville out hit Strodes Mills 13-8, but fell behind early and couldn't catch up.
Ryan Kanagy had four hits for Reedsville with a double and a triple. Nathan Parkes had three hits including a double, while Bryson Bubb had two.
Strodes had two players with multiple hits, Evan Strohecker and Jesus Guerrero.
Reedsville took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but Strodes Mills came right back with six in the bottom of the inning. Strodes scored it six runs on two walks, two Reedsville errors, and three singles. Strochecker, a rookie, had both of his base hits in the first and Brayden Hunter also had a single in the first.
With the loss, Reedsville fell to fifth place and Belletown moved into the fourth spot.
