‘Tis the season to read some more books

Season’s “Readings” everyone. My wish for everybody is a holiday filled with books. If you are looking for a small way to help the Mifflin County Library this holiday season, there are three ways to do that. The first way to help MCL is to get a library card. You may not think that having a library card is a big deal, but it is. A library card opens a world of books to you, and sometimes right at your fingertips. With your library card, you can check out and take home any book in our collection. Along with that, your library card opens all of the books that we have in our ...

Traditional ‘covenant theology’ has many flaws

He is also the Mediator of a better covenant Which was established on better promises. — Hebrews 8:6 In our study so far, we have seen that the Bible teaches some type of covenant theology. Beginning in Genesis and God’s covenant with Abraham and his household, then the covenant with Moses and the Israelites, the new covenant spoken of in Jeremiah 31:31, and the new covenant that our Lord introduced in the New Testament, makes it clear that God dealt with man through covenants. It is the Jew who has been given oversight of the sacred oracles and have repeatedly paid the price to ...

They will argue that it is more convenient or safer for them to do so rather than patronize local brick-and-mortar stores. Now, Fort Dodge will soon become home to one of Amazon’s last-mile delivery stations. The massive building is being constructed now. This is great news for the future of the community, but it is no reason to give up on the existing local retailers. Local retailers, from mom-and-pop specialty shops to the big-box stores, rely on ...

Skills that today’s hunters are losing

Much has been said about the decline of hunting, with recruitment as the leading cause. This refers to the lack of new members joining the ranks, young people who never pick up a bow or a rifle and head into the field. But there is another side to the coin: retention. Retention refers to individuals who do try hunting but, for some reason, leave the sport. Sometimes this is due to time constraints, competition with other activities, moving away or simply a lack of interest. However, I believe there is something else to blame. Hunting has become boring. Sure, bagging a big buck or ...
