Media soft-pedals root cause of murder

Sad to say, we keep killing each other. New FBI statistics show that, even though we practiced widespread isolation during the pandemic, the nation’s murder rate grew last year at the fastest rate ever — up 29.4%. There are fewer homicides now than during the peak years of the early ‘90s, but not since the federal government began keeping track in the ‘60s has the annual jump in homicides been as big as it was in 2020. The Washington Post’s news alert on the bureau’s announcement carried the headline: “U.S. killings soared nearly 30 percent in 2020, FBI data shows, with ...

Who is killing 10,000 Black Americans every year?

“Unfortunately, Jan. 6 was not an isolated event,” warned FBI Director Christopher Wray last winter: “The problem of domestic terrorism has been metastasizing across the country for a long time now, and it’s not going away anytime soon.” Since he became director in 2017, said Wray, FBI domestic terrorism investigations had doubled in number to more than 2,000, and FBI investigations of white supremacists had tripled. Listening to Wray, one came away with the impression that right-wing terrorism was our foremost internal security issue, that the Jan. 6 riot was a ...

Home – the story of who we are and a collection of all we love

Mifflin County, the place I call home, is where my story begins because that is where you will find the people and places that I love the most. It is the reason my husband Seth and I wanted to move back home to Lewistown. It will forever be our “home.” My name is Alyssa Brown (Henry). You might not know me, but I am sure if I told you my grandparents’ names, Mel and Kay Parker or Ron and Stella Henry, or even my parents or sister, Doug, Deb, and Ashley Henry, you may not know me per say, but you could figure it out. I probably wouldn’t even have to tell you my mom’s name, you ...

On Jan. 6, what did the FBI know?

The New York Times recently reported that the FBI had an undercover informant amid the mob that entered the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, who related to them his knowledge of demonstrators’ plans beforehand and his observations of events in the building in real time. The informant was a genuine member of the Proud Boys, one of the groups the feds are trying to charge with conspiracy to overthrow the government. According to the Times, the informant told the FBI in advance that there was no plan by his colleagues to disrupt the government. He also reported violence and destruction in the ...

America is still working

The Census Bureau has just issued its latest annual report, “Income and Poverty in the United States: 2020,” and American Enterprise Institute economist and blogger Mark Perry has extracted and summarized its highlights, as he does every year. Perry’s work is always illuminating because the data shows how much healthier the country is socially and economically than anyone would believe who listens to the naysayers on the left, who want to transform America into a giant, socialist welfare state. Contrary to what we hear from Democrats and the left-leaning media, Americans continue ...

What makes story of Gabby Petito different from others?

There are hundreds of thousands of people reported missing in the United States each year. Last year there were more than 540,000 reports filed with police. Sounds like a lot, but probably due to our COVID-19 isolation that was a record low number. Some of the missing were kidnapped; others were quickly found or voluntarily returned home; and there were those who simply wanted to disappear. Almost half of the missing are minorities, and most are under the age of 21. So, what is it about the missing person case of Gabby Petito, a white 22-year-old New Yorker who moved to Florida, that ...
