Free public computer and Wi-Fi available at JCL
Do you need a full-screen computer to type a document, browse a website, or complete another task? The Juniata County Library has six public computers available free of charge to access the internet, use Microsoft Office, and more. All computers run the latest version of Windows 11 and have Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Office version 2020.
Public computers and internet access are provided free of charge. Out-of-town visitors may use the internet during their visit to the library. In fairness to all our patrons, we have set limits on how long individuals may use this service. We will allow you a minimum of one hour per day during busy periods. If there is no wait to use the computers, you may continue to use them for as long as you need.
Computers automatically shut off 15 minutes before the library closes. All downloaded content is deleted daily. Please back up your files before leaving.
The library staff are available to answer questions and provide assistance. However, we must also assist other patrons, and we cannot spend extended time guiding you through your computer tasks. The library does offer one-on-one tech appointments. Please see the library staff for more information.
The library also has a law research computer. With it, you can access the robust LexisNexis database for free, which enables quick, easy searching and access to full-text documents from over 17,000 credible sources. I have personally used it to research local topics and it helped me pinpoint relevant legal content.
Users can access comprehensive, authoritative news content, including current coverage and deep archives, as well as extensive legal sources for federal and state cases and statutes, including U.S. Supreme Court decisions since 1790. This content can easily be shared, emailed and downloaded.
The library also offers free Wi-Fi. Connect to the “Juniata Library Wi-Fi” network. Once connected, you will be prompted through a pop-up window to accept the terms of use. No password is required.
You can also print wirelessly from your smartphone by connecting to our Wi-Fi network and asking a library staff member for assistance. This service is widely used because it is easy to use and convenient. Many people come into the library needing to print from their phone or email, but may not remember their email password and therefore can’t access a public computer. No need to worry. The library makes printing quick and easy. Black-and-white copies cost 35¢ per page and color copies cost $1 per page.
Charging outlets are located throughout the building, next to chairs and under tables. Feel free to bring your laptop, tablet or smartphone to the library.
Do you still need to use a computer or Wi-Fi after the library closes? You can borrow a mobile hotspot and take the internet with you.
