October’s top books at MCL
Let’s talk about the four most circulated books for October at the Mifflin County Library. This list is surprising.
At the top of the list is an old favorite with a new twist. This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the beloved classic “Tuck Everlasting” by Natalie Babbitt. But our most circulated book is the graphic novel adaptation which shows Winnie Foster who learns about a hidden spring and who meets the Tuck family, who already know about the spring’s life-changing power. And remember, there is a bad guy who will stop at nothing until he finds the Tucks and uncovers their secret. This version is adapted and illustrated by K. Woodman-Maynard. Knowing that “Tuck Everlasting” is on our list of most circulated books makes me want to read it again. I remember loving this story as a child.
Next on our list will be no surprise to readers of my column. It is a Freida McFadden novel called “Do Not Disturb.” This is the story of Quinn who has committed an “unthinkable crime.” To avoid prison, she grabs her passport and makes a run for the northern border, leaving everything and everyone behind. When a snowstorm forces her off the road, she takes refuge at the Bates….oops, I mean, the Baxter Motel. I don’t think I like where this is headed. There’s a mysterious figure in the window. The motel is dark. And there’s a dilapidated house nearby. I’m even hearing a screeching violin as I write this column. You know the one I’m thinking of? From that movie? I am currently reading “Never Lie” by Frieda because everyone is talking about her. I think I’ll read “Do Not Disturb” next.
Also on our list is an author I haven’t ever read before. The book is “Edge of Honor” by Brad Thor. This is the 24th novel in the Scot Harvath series. Scot Harvath is America’s top spy. And in this book, he’s drawn in a web of deadly politics and a conspiracy that could “change the course of history.” If he fails in his mission, the future of America is doomed. This book is full of twists and turns, it is action-packed and it has rave reviews on Amazon. Based on our circulation count, our library patrons love it too. Brad Thor has been writing spy thrillers since 2002.
Last on our list of the four top circulating books for October is “Billion-dollar Ransom” by James Patterson and Duane Swierczynski. Another thriller, in this book, five members of a billionaire’s family are kidnapped at the same time. The billionaire wants them back and will do anything to get them. There’s just one problem; the FBI agent in charge refuses to pay the kidnapers. James Patterson is still at the top of his game when it comes to writing thrillers.
Do any of these titles sound like something you would like to read?
And just a heads up, Mifflin County Library will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28 for Thanksgiving. Both library locations will reopen on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 9 a.m.
