MC Babe Ruth League board gives thanks To the Editor: For many families in our area, spring means the start of baseball season, and the Mifflin County Junior Babe Ruth League is the home for ten baseball teams in our area that support teen athletes as they continue to hone their baseball skills, and, more importantly, their sportsmanship and cooperation. To prepare for the upcoming season, we hosted a fundraiser, and we were grateful for the outpouring of community support. Keep your eyes open when you vote To the Editor: In The Sentinel’s March 2 edition on page A2 there was an article titled “CDC relaxes COVID quarantine guidelines.” Imagine that! Parents are told to treat their sick children with Covid-19 like any other respiratory illness. Children are encouraged to wear a mask upon returning to school but it is not required. No mention of immunization was made. I am astonished that it took this long to finally agree to common sense that was provided near the beginning of the pandemic. Handle US issues ‘one at a time’ To the Editor: Why does every issue in government have to be so complicated? I suppose because every politician has their own idea on each issue. Their constituents differ widely across the country. They form groups and packs to support like-minded people. The path down this rabbit hole becomes more convoluted with every step. Most intelligent people know breaking down a problem into manageable parts is the best way forward! The answer must be there is no intelligence in our government. Consider who you vote for during border crisis To the Editor: I would like to respond to Mr. Loht’s letter to the editor on Feb. 21. He makes many good points concerning the border situation and ways to remedy it. I would like to add additional points. Republicans in the House of Representatives were adamant that they would not pass a bill to support Ukraine unless it addressed the crisis at the border. A bipartisan committee worked for four months to create H.R. 815, which would have overhauled the asylum system with faster and tougher enforcement, as well as given presidents ...

Solution to national finances is simple To the Editor: Something new politically has come to light: several polls have identified that the economy is no longer the primary concern of the electorate. “It’s the economy, stupid,” no longer applies. Fourteenth annual Walk for Warmth was success To the Editor: The 14th annual Walk for Warmth was held on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at Kish Park in Lewistown. The event is held each year in February, when temperatures are low, so that walkers could imagine what families who are struggling might endure. This year’s walkers had mild temperatures as they came out to support this worthy cause. This event is co-hosted by United Way of Mifflin-Juniata and the Mifflin-Juniata Human Services Department.
