As we enter October, communities across Pennsylvania are observing Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This year, advocates nationwide are rallying behind a vital reminder: #Every1KnowsSome1.
Domestic violence does not discriminate. It crosses every age, race, socioeconomic status, and zip code. As a matter of fact, members of our most vulnerable populations experience the highest rates of victimization. Last year, 99 lives were lost due to domestic violence in Pennsylvania. Behind each of these numbers is a neighbor, a coworker, a friend, or a family member. Join us in honoring those victims as you pass by our purple flag display in Lewistown and Mifflintown.
You can take action by supporting your local domestic violence program and educating yourself and children about domestic violence. The Abuse Network provides free domestic violence prevention programming. Learning to recognize the subtle warning signs of abuse, recognizing signs that abuse may turn fatal, and recognizing signs of healthy relationships is a critical first step in the prevention of domestic violence.
If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, you are not alone. Free, confidential support and prevention education are available 24/7 through The Abuse Network Hotline at 1-888-810-2444.
Sincerely,
