Everything takes place in God’s time

2 min read

I find in God’s word in the book of Ecclesiastes the following: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which was planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, a time to dance; a time to cast stones, a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, a time to refrain from embracing; a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time to war, and a time of peace.” (Eccl.3:1-8).

The word time here is used to point to an appointed moment or season set apart for a specific purpose. I find numerous times in God’s word where He had set times appointed for things to come about. Such as: the flood (Gen.6:17); the call of Abraham (Gen.22:1); birth of Isaac (Gen.17:21); Jacob called Israel (Gen.35:10); the birth, death, and resurrection of His Son (Lu.2:6, Jn.12;23, Matt.16:21): the regeneration by the Holy Spirit of His elect (Acts17:26-28, Jn.3:5-8), and Christ return (Matt.24:26).

God is not confined to time as is His creation (2Pet.3:8, Ps.90:40). God has been in control from the beginning (Gen.1:1) and has controlled all of His creation and has brought about, according to His good pleasure and will, all that takes place in this world and will do so in the world to come in His time, not ours (Jer.4:28, Dan.4:35).
