Jesus made forgiveness of sin possible

2 min read

All of mankind needs forgiveness from God for all have been born as sinners (Ps.51:5, 58:3). There is no one who needs any schooling or education to teach us to do wrong and be disobedient towards God. Our own heart leads us into wickedness and rebellion (Jer.17:9; Gen. 8:21). We are all guilty sinners before God, for by deed, or word, or thought, or imagination we have broken all of His holy laws. There are none who understand or seek God, none that do good (Ps.14:2-3) and what we think to be right before Him is but as filthy rags to Him (Isa. 64:6).

But God is a merciful God for He tells Moses: He will be gracious to whom He will be gracious and will show mercy to whom He will show mercy (Exod. 33:19). To the psalmist He promises mercy to those who fear Him and He will remove their sins from them as far as the East is from the West (Ps. 103:11-12). And through Ezekiel He promises forgiveness to all that are drawn to Him by His Holy Spirit (Ezek. 36:27).

Pardon and forgiveness of sin is possible because God's sacrifice of His only begotten son. For on the cross Jesus took our sins upon Himself and suffered the wrath of God for us. Atonement had to be made for God to be just and the justifier of those who put heir trust in Jesus (Rom. 3:26). Forgiveness comes a free gift given by God by grace through faith in the work of His Son for His chosen (Eph. 2:8; Rom. 3:25)
