Thanks to tab challenge participants

To the Editor:

We wanted to take a moment to thank everyone in Lewistown who participated in our Tab Challenge, which benefits Susquehanna Service Dogs. This year, you, Lewistown Elks Lodge 663, and our entire North Central District raised $1,332.55. Those funds are now in the hands of the Susquehanna Service Dogs organization, and they are extremely thankful. Please keep the soda and beer can tabs coming! Our apologies, but we cannot accept cat food or other can tabs, just beer and soda tabs.

We must acknowledge and confess sins

To the Editor:

When John the Baptist started his ministry his message was “repent ye” (Matt. 3:2). When Jesus began to preach, His message was “repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matt. 4:17).

True repentance comes from the change in man’s heart by GOD (Ezek. 36:25-28; Jer. 31:31-34; 32:38-41). This change of heart must be made because man’s heart by nature is evil continually (Gen. 6:5; 8:21), he is born a sinner (Ps. 51:5; 58:3) and his heart is deceitful and desperately wicked (Jer. 17:9). Man is dead in trespass and sin (Eph. 2:1), he does not seek GOD (Rom. 3:11), he is at enmity against GOD (Rom. 8:7) and GOD’s enemy (Rom. 5:10).

To truly repent we must have knowledge of our sins and have a heartfelt sorrow for them. We must confess our sins, turn away from them and have a deep hatred for them.

True repentance is always accompanied by saving faith and forgiveness from GOD.
