Road use tax could be solution

To the Editor:

It’s just a matter of time before the federal and state taxes will be history, and that is a good thing Why? It’s because the gas taxes, like the sales taxes, unfairly burden the poor and the working class. It’s not their vehicles that damage the roadways.

What would take the place of the gas taxes? A good replacement would be a road use tax, based on the weight of a vehicle, and perhaps the yearly miles driven.

A road use tax would place the burden on the owners of those heavy vehicles that use and damage the highways more than the smaller, lighter vehicles of the poor the working class and everyday citizens who also drive.
