Response to Trump assassination attempt lacking
To the Editor:
Enough already. This afternoon, Donald Trump's life was spared a second time. Like a cornered wild animal, the left has come out kicking - anything to keep Donald Trump from wrecking their campaign. I think their very existence is threatened, and they know it.
The response from Kamala Harris? She stated that she was glad Donald Trump was safe. Oh, and there is no place for violence in America. Violence in America? Does she mean black-on-black murders in Philadelphia, Chicago, and other Democrat-run cities that barely get a yawn from Ms. Harris? Does she mean the violence perpetrated by illegal aliens (let's call them what they are) - rapes, murders, and fentanyl-induced deaths that would not happen if people here illegally were not here at all? Maybe she means the looting and burning that we all witnessed on television screens in cities like Tim Walz's Minneapolis as biased reporters told us with straight faces about mostly peaceful protests.
Pay attention, Ms. Harris. Today's brush with death a second time was not about "violence in America." In my opinion, it was about the incendiary language and posturing that your party uses to assault President Trump and those who agree with him that there are many ways in which America can be made great again. After the first assassination attempt, we heard political leaders on both sides of the aisle implore everyone to turn down the temperature on the political rhetoric, stop demonizing political opponents, and focus on the issues that matter to the American people.
That didn't last. Democrats are back at it, shouting that Donald Trump is a threat to democracy. We all get it. When Ms. Harris has no record to run on and is terrified of revealing her far-left policies and views, she has nothing left but to demonize her opponent.
Enough already, Ms. Harris, of the ugly demonizing. Ms. Harris, I feel your statement today was woefully inadequate and vacuous, just like your candidacy. Since you don't seem to be able to step up to the plate and say what needs to be said, I will help you. Here are the words I feel you need to say: "I am glad Donald Trump is safe. Political violence from my supporters directed toward Donald Trump, a former President of the United States of America, is unacceptable and I condemn it in the strongest possible terms. I call upon all of my supporters to believe the best about our political opponents and treat them with the safety and respect they deserve as fellow citizens of our great nation." Go on, Ms. Harris. Say it. Say it and mean it.

Which administration offers 'better leadership'
To the Editor:
I am writing in response to the letter on Sept. 10, 2024, with the caption "Demand better leadership at critical moment."
To the first point regarding "the stock market's dramatic crash the week of Aug. 15, I am assuming that is a scrivener's error. Perhaps the writer was citing the date of Aug. 5? From Aug. 15, 2024, to the present, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has steadily recouped those losses, and as of Sept. 9, 2024, was back up to nearly 41,000.
(Editor's note: There should have been an editor's note included with the letter referenced above stating that it was written on August 15, not that the crash happened on August 15.)
The "record inflation" to which the writer refers, I would categorize as corporate greed. Corporations now, in my opinion, use their profits to make stock buybacks and reward their executives with huge salaries rather than investing in their workers and their business infrastructure. Ultimately, I think consumers pay that price. Inflation has been steadily dropping.
Regarding issues at the southern border, where is that "wall" that was supposed to be the ultimate fix? Could these "issues" have anything to do with a certain someone telling members of Congress not to pass an immigration bill?
As for the report from the House Judiciary Committee, I take that with a large grain of salt because of who the committee chair is.
I am not knowledgeable enough about the Middle East situation to offer an opinion as to whether the "chaos in our foreign policy [is] raising the specter of ... a world war." I do believe the current administration is doing the best it can in a very volatile area of the world, and I opt to remain hopeful rather than write off diplomatic efforts and throw up my hands in defeat.
Lastly, I would be interested in knowing the locations where "crime is surging in our streets." I do know of a convicted felon from Florida who is currently roaming our great country at will, and painting what I feel is a bad, largely erroneous picture of America. With a vision like that, he does not appear to me to be the "better leadership" we should be demanding.
