State sales tax is not necessary
To the Editor:
Is Pennsylvania's tax on sales really needed?
NO! The state can easily replace it by increasing its personal income tax rate. The tax on sales unfairly targets the poor and low-income taxpayers, and it should be eliminated!
A more equitable solution to the revenue problem would be to legalize and use a graduated-income tax system for individuals and corporations. While they are at it, outlaw per capita, occupation, and other unjust taxes.
For example, in a household with only one employed spouse, it amounts to double taxation for that working spouse if both spouses are assessed per capita tax bills.
Pennsylvania desperately needs to overhaul its taxing system to eliminate all unjust taxes that are not based on the ability to pay.
