What is wrong with this election?
To the Editor:
Going back to the 2016 Presidential election, give or take a few months, is 8 years. What has changed? Nothing! It is the same he said she said pile of insults, claims, counterclaims, and enough money to dam the Mississippi River.
No statesmen are running. We have a real estate magnate and former DA from, of all places, California. Both can claim experience as one-term President and Vice President. One can't live without a mirror and one can't stop laughing. Is this the best we have to offer?
We all know the saying about insanity. Stated a little differently, Jessie Potter, stated at a Woman to Woman conference:
"If you always do what you've always done, you always get what you've always gotten."
Well, here we are, folks! Isn't it about time to change the lineup? See some new faces? Hear some new ideas? TV ads are driving me nuts! When did lying become a virtue?
How about term limits in Congress, restrictions on Presidential Executive orders, bringing back line-item veto, a balanced budget tied to reelection eligibility (you don't balance, you can't run again), ineligibility of you and your family from trading stock while in office? There are ways to curb lifetime politicians who get rich trading public trust for profit. What starts with good public service intentions soon turns to self-service. Who spends hundreds of millions for political jobs that don't pay over three hundred thousand? It is all about power and influence. Public service has been lost on the list of motivations to seek public office.
It is a shame but it will take the collapse of our economy with a major depression or another world war to bring out a true leader to save us from ourselves!
As proof of the delusional thinking and actions in Washington today, how could anyone believe Joe Biden belongs on Mount Rushmore? I am convinced public service in Washington qualifies as a disconnect from the reality of the middle class!
It is time for some changes!
