Demand better leadership at critical moment
To the Editor:
The current state of our nation is deeply troubling. The stock market's dramatic crash the week of Aug. 15. I feel this crash signals an impending recession, leaving families to grapple with record inflation, costing them thousands more each year. This economic chaos threatens our financial future and undermines the stability of everyday life.
At the southern border, Vice President Kamala Harris's policies have led to alarming consequences in my opinion. The border remains open to criminal aliens and drug cartels, endangering our communities. A new report, from the House Judiciary Committee, reveals that at least 99 illegal aliens on the terror watchlist were allowed into the country (under the Biden/Harris administration) -- a direct result of Harris's approach to border security.
Crime is surging in our streets, and, I believe Harris's soft-on-crime stance is to blame. Her record of leniency towards violent criminals and protection of illegal immigrant drug dealers has only emboldened those who threaten our safety. Even worse, she has supported bailing out convicted, violent criminals, allowing them to reoffend.
Globally, tensions in the Middle East are escalating dangerously. U.S. officials warn of an imminent attack by Iran and Hezbollah against Israel, raising the specter of a much wider conflict that could spiral into a world war. In my opinion, the chaos in our foreign policy is leaving the world on edge.
This is a critical moment, and we must demand better leadership.
