Sanctification is growth and awakening
To the Editor:
We are told in the 2 Timothy 2:22 that we are "sanctified, and meet for the Master's use". So, what does it mean to be sanctified?
Sanctification is the continuation of that which begun at regeneration by the Holy Spirit (Jn,3:5-8) and by the effectual call of the gospel. Regeneration is the renewing of our whole nature. The calling of the gospel becomes effectual when that new nature consciously responds to the gospel by repentance and faith. Sanctification continues the nurturing and development of that new nature which is brought into being by the work of the Holy Spirit.
Sanctification comes by the Holy Spirit teaching us as we read and study the word of GOD and are giving an understanding of what we need to do to serve Him. We will find as we walk with GOD that the domination of sin is broken, though the presence of sin is not entirely eliminated. We will always have a struggle with sin in this life but as the Holy Spirit works in us, we will be conformed to His will and do His good pleasure (Phil.2:13). Sanctification is our growth in being able to live and move and have our being in GOD (Acts.17:28).
