Future of humankind is in dire straits
To the Editor:
Unfortunately, humankind seems to be stuck in a state of permanent developmental arrest reminiscent of a group of 2- to 3-year-olds bickering over the most prized objects in a sandbox.
Among these prized possessions may be land, water, timber, fossil fuels, mineral ores, rare earth metals, even cheap or slave labor. The leaders of nations exhibit many behaviors of developmental arrest in their guests for these profitable resources. Possession of these commodities gains access to many glittery objects, mansions on vast estates, Ferraris or McClarens, yachts, ski chalets in St. Moritz, or tax sheltered Caribbean palaces if sunshine is more appealing to these adult children.
Human beings die to supply these childish needs for the wealthy aristocracy of elites who beckon to the peasant class of blue-collar workers to murder their fellow peasants in the name of their deity, or democracy, freedom or the absurd notion that perpetual war will somehow bring about a perpetual peace.
Those whom we call our learned leaders belong to a very select group of adult children, a group capable of charming airs, friendly dispositions, pals and buddies to all of the peasant class. Many of these character flaws are masked by the trappings of success, the shiny objects that proclaim falsely that these adult children should be admired and adored by the working masses they have abused for decades or centuries.
It is our own human frailty and longings for these shiny objects that portray wealth and power that attracts us to these adult children. We wish in our heart of hearts to be one of them. They are the mirror image of our own developmental arrest. They are used and we are them.
They are the Donald Trumps of the authoritarian states that are springing up in Europe, they are the Republican party in Congress and the six justices in the U.S. Supreme Court. They are the Republican voter base.
They are the Ken and Barbie dolls with the latest fashions, the fastest cars, the mansion on the hill and the most glamorous friends.
The empty core personalities are the reasons why humans will fight humans in the sand box of the world, until human kind exists no more.
