Samaritan's Purse Christmas shoe boxes
It's that time of the year again, time for Samaritan's Purse Christmas Shoe Boxes.
Children around the world receive shoe boxes packed with gifts - children who otherwise would not receive any Christmas gifts. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and grandparents to teach their children about giving to others- rather than getting gifts. Involve children in the purchases for the shoebox. Encourage them to choose items they themselves would like to receive. Explain that for many children gifts at Christmas simply do not happen.
A recent missionary from Romania, who grew up during communism, related that she received a box as a child. It was truly a memorable event. She said so often children receive shoe boxes and receive a gift they have been wishing for.
The program is organized through Samaritan's Purse, Franklin Graham, president. Many local Churches participate in this event. The deadline for filling a box is Nov. 15. If you do need more information, please contact Tammy Harshbarger at (717) 935-5529.
