How to tell fact vs. fiction today

To the Editor:

When I listen to or read about what the world is putting forth nowadays, I believe the question needs to be asked, what is the truth? It seems that everybody has their own concept and adds their own twist to each event as it comes to light. So, it is difficult to understand what is truly fact or fiction.

When Jesus was before Pilate, Pilate confronted Him about being king of the Jews, Jesus answered him with these words: "Thou sayest that I am king. To this end was I born and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice." Pilate's response to this was: "What is truth?" Now we are not given an answer to the question here but GOD's word gives us the answer. Jesus tells us in John 17:17 that GOD's word is truth and in John 14:6 that He is truth. So, if we are seeking truth, we can find it in GOD's word.

So, we know we have a source of truth that we can trust but what about what we are getting from the world. We cannot take anything put forth by the world at face value today and accept it as fact. We need to "try the spirits" (1 Jn.4:1) and "prove all things and hold fast to what is good" (1 Thes.5:21) We need to find the facts and when we get to the point of the truth we can hold onto it.
