Thanks to those who helped Adopt-a-Planter
To the Editor:
The Downtown Lewistown Adopt-a-Planter Program is a coordinated effort to maintain 52 planters along Market Street and in the mall area. As autumn begins and brings the end of our seventh season, I'd like to thank the 28 talented planter sponsors. These lovely individuals, businesses and organizations have thoughtfully considered a design, purchased plants, and fed and watered their planters all summer. And, they've done it all on their own time and money. Many of them are now replacing the tender annuals in their planters with mums, grasses and evergreens to provide fall and winter interest. No one is required to maintain their planter after the first killing frost, but many sponsors elect to do so anyway, which further substantiates their generosity.
Thanks to Jami and Elysia Glick, Lisa Knudson, Wray's Landscaping Inc., Zion Hair Salon, Kathy's Korner, Bushman Landscaping, Emily Cherry, Roxanne Carstetter, JVB, The Square Cafe & Bakery, Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, Jim's Scrap Metals, The Abuse Network, Square One Clubhouse, Penn State Master Gardeners of the Juniata Valley, Mifflin County Conservation District, DNA Blossoms, Matt Conrad and Miss Stephanie's School of Dance, Vega's Lawn and Landscaping, Laskaris's, Mifflin Juniata LGBTQ Alliance, Sacred Heart Parish and School, KC's Gifts and Awards, Budget Blinds of Happy Valley, Barger's Landscaping, Lewistown Pharmacy, River Mountain Landscaping, and; Bigfoot Radio. Thanks to the Borough of Lewistown for allowing us to continue this work. I'd also like to thank my husband Mike, who will soon inevitably lend me a hand (and a trailer) to remove plants from various planters around town. Later, just before the Festival of Ice, he will hook up a different trailer to bring in evergreens and other winter plant material. It would be so much more difficult (and a lot less fun!) without him.
