Thank you to law enforcement, corrections workers
To the Editor:
So much to write about. Where to start, that is the question?
Let me start by commending the different branches of law enforcement that captured escaped murderer Cavalcante, and thank God that it happened without anyone being harmed. All members of law enforcement deserve our thanks for the job they do to protect the public. I know that someone at the jail in Chester County was fired because of his mistake, allowing him to escape. I don't know all the information about how exactly that happened at that time so, I am not going to comment on that. I will say that those in corrections are mostly very conscientious about doing a good job of keeping the public safe. I know because I spent 21 years at SCI Rockview as a tradesman instructor. I know that it is one of the most stressful jobs that anyone can have, because of the people you have to deal with every day. I am not saying that everyone is a Cavalcante who stabbed his ex-girlfriend 38 times but there are some who are even worse. I personally have been in a tunnel under the cell block somewhere with 15 or more inmates on my crew with all matters of tools, wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, etc. and the only thing I had to protect myself with was my own ability and a whistle. Over the years, I saw many people start to work there and quit in a couple weeks or less.
If you know someone who works in law enforcement or correction, they could use a thank you.
After reading the letters in today's Sentinel from Michael C. Spahr and Donald Wayne Loht, I wish to say that both of you are right on! As for George Fisher. I have this to say... None in their right mind would ever say that the U.S. or any other nation was perfect. I dare you to name me one. While you are at it, name me a country where there wasn't slavery at some time or another. Try naming me a country where the original people were not at some point concerned by someone else. Even the Native Americans took over other tribes and made slaves of those they defeated. Even the African tribes defeated each other and sold people into slavery. How do you think slaves got to Europe and the U.S. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers and after he rose to be No. 2. Egypt and saved the Egyptians from a 7-year famine, his whole family and their descendants were enslaved until God had Moses bring them out to the promised land. In spite of its wants the U.S. has become the one nation in the world that has given more hope and freedom to more people than any other nation in the world. Why do you think everybody wants to come here? In my opinion this country was much better off when Trump was president than any other time in my life, and I am 77 years old. It has gone downhill with Biden who is out to lunch. Yes, I want to make America Great Again. Go MAGA!
