Do not compare BLM movement to Jan. 6

This letter is in response to the letter by Arthur Keller that appeared on Thursday, Aug. 31. In it, Mr. Keller claims there is a "two-tiered justice system" in the U.S. by equating the events of Jan. 6 and BLM protests. There is no comparison.
In response to the killing of George Floyd and other black men by Eric Chauvin and some bad police, the BLM protests took place in over 2000 cities and towns and involved somewhere between 15 and 20 million people. The vast majority of the protests were peaceful, including the protests that occurred in Lewistown and Mifflintown. The BLM protests involved millions of people protesting for a just cause. A handful of the BLM protests turned violent and where police could identify and arrest the violent protesters, they did.
The storming of our national Capitol wasn't a nationwide event. It was a single event involving approximately 2,000 people. It was intensely televised and recorded by Capitol closed circuit TV. This resulted in relatively easy identification and arrests. Whereas BLM protesters were trying to change police tactics and reduce discrimination, the Capitol attackers were deliberately trying to change the results of a free and fair election by ravaging our Capitol and forcing Mike Pence to de-certify the election results. The motivation for the attack on Jan. 6 was based on an outright lie and was never justified.
Yes Mr. Keller there is a two-tiered justice system. That's why a black man was choked to death by a police officer. It's also why Donald Trump isn't already languishing in jail while those that don't have the means to post bail for menial crimes are.
