Laws and taxes
To the Editor:
Are there too many laws and taxes? Think about it! For every law with a regulation that requires enforcement, some government agency is charged with that responsibility. For example, why do we have the Pennsylvania State Police, an expensive State Law Enforcement agency?
Anytime that a tax law is passed, some government agency or department is responsible for collecting that tax. For example, why do we have the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue?
Do we really need separate taxes on alcohol, gambling, tobacco and many other nuisance and sin taxes that cost money to collect?
Is there one tax that would tax the poor and working-class taxpayers at lower rates and well-to-do taxpayers and profitable businesses at higher rates and would require only one collection agency instead of a State Department with hundreds of employees? Yes!
Is there a graduated income tax that can be used by local, county and state governments and by local school districts? Do Republicans really want smaller government, or more taxes paid by poor and working-class taxpayers?

Reality check?

A reply to Mr. Becht's August 22 submission to the Editor:
It must be hard living in a world with no common sense. Where truth is as rare as frog's hair. Where lies are welcomed to support imaginary situations. Where deflection of reality is the norm!
Take for instance the "Russian hoax," used for a false impeachment, swore to by Democrats and liberals as the truth. Supported by false whistleblowers who never appeared. Millions spent on a manufactured fairytale. That is reality.
How about 25 dead from the 2020 liberal riots? Then came "defund the police," and crime went through the roof because liberals were soft on crime. Liberals tout, those felons were misunderstood, abused youth who know no better. Now, murder, car theft and mass shoplifting is the norm. That is reality.
The sitting President has been exposed for receiving millions from our enemies via his son's influence peddling. This has been backed up by whistleblower testimony and bank records. He may be compromised given the fact he is sending so much money to Ukraine. The media ignores all of this. That is reality.
The list goes on. Trump is no better. Where does this leave the American people? We need a change of attitude, direction and goals in Washington.
We need common sense to return to America! Only then will reality be restored.
Be careful Mr. Becht … you can't see the forest for the trees. The problem is not just Trump. You are riding a wave of hate for one man. Look at the big picture. Lies are lies, no matter who is telling them. Ignoring the truth is when you lie to yourself!
