Rebuttal for the
'middle class'
To The Editor:
This is in reply to the letter published on July 25 by Michael Spahr. What Mr. Spahr and conservatives in general seem to forget is that if were not for the working poor then the rich people of this country and I am going to say the middle class would not be in the presumptive positions they are in today. If it were not for the working poor working their bodies to the bone often for a pittance, then the rich and middle class would not be able to do what they want in their non-working life i.e., take the vacations they want or buy the things they want.
No, Mr. Spahr it is the poor and working poor that quite often are put in harm's way just to fill the pockets of the rich and middle class with money, so when I see pathetic comments such as well the middle class lost $33,000 on average I say so what, so that means that they can't go on that vacation they wanted to or buy that object wanted.
The poor and working poor quite often don't get even a day trip away from the town they grew up in or get to buy the object that they want, for them a vacation and or the object they want to have for a tiny bit of pleasure is 99.99% unobtainable. Don't the poor and working poor deserve a vacation to recharge themselves or is it just a case of nope they to work all the time just to be able to make money for the rich and middle class, and let's forget that the working poor cannot even take a day of work if they are sick because guess what they lose a day's pay.
Do the middle class or rich people have that trouble? Nope, they do not. They can take a sick day without losing money because it is made for them by the working poor. So, when you conservatives spread the propaganda about the middle class and rich people in general being worse off now that they were I have to ask what planet are you living on? The only people that are worse off are the poor and working poor.
The rich by the way get tax break after tax break after tax break and have tax havens in other countries, kind of makes me wonder how much tax that the rich are not paying that they should be paying. Along with the loans that they don't get and don't "have to pay back "like the PPP loans. You conservatives are all about giving the rich and middle class breaks so how come none are given to the poor or working.
For example, you mention SSI disability, charities and civic programs, all worthwhile, but tell me why is it that the money for these programs for the poor and disability? Why is it that every single time a budget comes out that the money for these worthwhile programs get cut?
Let's get back to the rich people and the 1.9 trillion tax break they were given under the former guy. How much went into increasing wages for working people. The rich made out by $100s of thousands of dollars such made out by millions yet still paid a pittance to the people that worked in their businesses.
Should companies that are worth millions be able to get tax breaks when their employees are having to go to the federal government just to be able to live - quite simply put the answer is no but you conservatives seem to have no problem with helping the rich and middle class but when it come to the poor and working poor you conservatives have problems with helping them?
So, don't spew the nonsense of well the poor have these programs when you none that every year the money going to those programs get cut yet the rich and middle class get break after break after break the example for that would be the PPP loans that came out during the pandemic that were forgiven. Yet the student loans that were taken out often by poor families were not forgiven, loans I might add that were taken out for the betterment of the student -- is that part of the "opportunity" you mentioned. I guess it must be. The opportunity to be in debt for the rest of the his or her life that is.
