What Pennsylvania
Rural Counties Need!
To the Editor:
The rural counties DO NOT NEED corporations with ambitious, overpaid CEOs looking for cheap labor in a state with a low corporate income tax rate and a state that does not have a graduated income tax that taxes the wealthy at a higher tax rate than working class taxpayers. They would prefer a state like Pennsylvania with a high sales tax rate that hurts lower income workers and their families.
Pennsylvania's rural counties DO need a good healthcare system that doesn't charge users an arm and two legs for their services, including prescription drugs. The rural counties also need free public education for its residents from birth throughout life, not just K-12. Learning is a lifetime activity.
Pennsylvania's rural counties DO need 24 hour paid fire protection located at strategic locations in the county, so that firefighters can respond quickly to a fire or an emergency. These firefighters should have been paid benefits to protect their survivors in case the worst happens.
The rural counties DO need 24 hour police protection located at strategic locations in the county, so that the police can respond quickly to an emergency. They should also have paid benefits to protect their survivors in case the worst happens.
All Pennsylvania Counties DO need a graduated income tax to replace unfair, flat-rate earned and unearned income and unpopular property taxes. All these things can happen if voters elect state representatives, state senators, and a governor who all work for their constituents, not the corporations, their political party and the wealthy.
