Response to Mr. Sellers, published on July 1
I would like to respond to the letter published by Mr. Stephen Sellers published on July 1, 2023. Where do I start? Let's go in order.
1. Yes, Biden did stop the Keystone Pipeline, a pipeline, I may add, that led from Mexico to Canada and had no stops at American oil refineries, but instead, would have ruined the drinking water of Native American tribes and their tribal lands. But I guess that people like Mr. Sellers don't care about the lives of the Native Americans that the pipeline would have destroyed, as if enough of theirs was not already taken.
2. Yes, Biden stopped building the wall, which under the previous administration was proven to be easily scalable and was blown down in the wind. How much did the sections that were built cost the taxpayer? Money, by the way, that could have been used for better purposes.
3. So Mr. Sellers, I have to ask, do you not think that the middle and lower classes were also miserable under Trump or are you delusional to think that they are only miserable when a Democrat is President? The Green New Deal has provisions for thousands of high paying jobs in the US, which those "miserable" members of the middle and lower classes can apply for and hopefully obtain gainful employment.
4. Let's get some facts straight -- the Afghanistan withdrawal was actually started under Donald Trump who, in February of 2020, negotiated a withdrawal agreement with the Taliban that EXCLUDED the Afghan government. This agreement freed 5,000 Taliban soldiers, which, by the way, he had no jurisdiction to even mention this in the negotiations, who had been imprisoned, reducing American troop levels from 13,000 to 2,500. Let's not forget that when Trump pulled American troops away from the border of Turkey and Syria, he abandoned our Kurdish allies that had been helping in the fight against the Taliban. Twice the former guy helped American enemies.
5. Biden may be a "doddering fool" as you claim, but he has proved time and time again that he can run rings around the modern GOP -- just look at the debt ceiling deal.
6. Biden supports what most of the country also does. Abortion is a woman's right that no man has the right to take away. Let me put this another way, what would you have done all those years ago when you found the person that you wanted to spend the rest of your life with but were told, oh you can't do that because her lifestyle was not what people thought it should be, or people thought her moral outlook was wrong. Would you have still married that person and spent the rest of your life together, or would you have gone with what people say? If you say the latter, then I question your morals.
