To the Editor:
I heard on the news this morning that there was concern by the Greenies as to the green aspect of our military armaments, such as missiles and rockets. This is crazy! When it comes to the military in a time of conflict or war, the main consideration should be, is it effective and does it do what is most important to protect this nation and its people and defeat the enemies of this nation, not its carbon footprints. Do you think for one minute that our biggest enemies in this world – China, Russia, North Korea, or Iran – are worried about this? China is one of the biggest carbon footprint countries in the world, topped only by India.
I have stated in previous letters that man is never going to control the environment or climate. I have said before, God is in control of the climate. There are too many things that control the climate that occur in the natural world that we can't control. Methane gas (natural gas) bubbles up at times from the ocean floor. Volcanoes erupt, forest fires get started as well as other fires happen. Look at the forest fires in Canada right now, and the effect it has on the world. Look at all the smoke spreading all over the United States right now. I wouldn't be afraid to bet that those fires have put more carbon into the air than all the cars in the U.S. have produced in the same time period, and they still are not under control.
I read in the Sentinel recently that Toyota makes a race car that runs on Hydrogen. I said before that Hydrogen is the cleanest fuel you can have for vehicles. When it burns, you get water. The only problem is that it takes more energy to separate the Hydrogen and Oxygen in water than you get when you burn the Hydrogen and get water. If they could solve that problem, they would really have something!

As a local funeral director, I want to make people aware of a telephone scam that is currently targeting the families of deceased individuals. Using recently published obituaries, the scammer poses as a member of the local funeral home staff and calls families to tell them that they owe an additional amount of money for the service. In other instances, the scammer has contacted a person and told them that a "security deposit" is needed for pre-need services and, if the deposit is not paid immediately, the funeral home cannot guarantee that the service will take place.
I would remind people to be aware of the billing practice of the funeral home they are working with, to never disclose personal information over the phone, and to follow up directly with the funeral home, before authorizing any payments. It is my hope that by spreading the news about this scam, no one becomes a victim.
