"The War on Drugs"
To the Editor:
In 1971, President Richard Nixon declared "The War on Drugs". That was 52 years ago, and prisons today are filled to capacity with minor offense drug users, mostly blacks, and today, drugs that are stronger and more poisonous are still readily available from too many drug dealers. What happened? Perhaps too many victims didn't listen to Nancy Reagan when she told them to "Just Say No."
The problem with "The War on Drugs" is obvious: it either imprisons the innocent victims (drug users), or it puts them into expensive drug rehabilitation programs that do not have a good record of success.
Perhaps a "War on Drug Dealers" would have been effective in solving our drug problem.
