The other side of religion
This is in response to Mr. Sellers' letter published March 16. The Christian Bible clearly states that it is a sin to eat shellfish, but with you being a Christian, you would know that. The Bible also states the same about pork. Are you saying that you eat both shellfish and pork?
I can imagine what it will be like when you enter those pearly gates; no, it won't be for those attacks on illegal immigrants (the Bible clearly states that you should treat them as you would want to treated -- with kindness and love and not as you so-called Christian conservatives want to do and show them hatred and disdain) or those attacks that always comes from rightwing conservatives on the LGBQTIA+ community.
My grandfather was not a member of any church, but he had faith. He said you did not have to go to church to be a good man. So no, you do not need to read scripture to have morals. My grandmother was not a church attendee, but she had faith.
She said morals should be taught by their parents, not by someone standing in a pulpit or on a stage. I happen to agree with my grandparents.
I feel churches in the U.S. are actually conning their attendees. How are they conning? I hear you say, quite easy. That donation plate that comes after the service -- if as the Bible states that God provides everything, why do people need to donate?
Look at the mega churches. How much of that money gets donated? Does the preacher take for his own purposes, such as buying a private jet? To name just one preacher that has his own private jet, Pastor Creflo Dollar.
Why does a church need its own private jet? Surely if as they and numerous other people claim that they help the needy, every single cent that goes to that church should go to helping the needy. Where does it say in the Bible that a priest is allowed to abuse children and then have their church elders cover up that deed as the Catholic Church has done in numerous cases. If you have Netflix, I suggest you watch 'The Keepers.' As for the nonsense about going to hell, if you are a nonbeliever, then I welcome it. Better to be in a place where a person can be him or herself than with a bunch of stuck-up goody two shoes.
