Writer's concept leaves questions
To the Editor:
Letter-writer Stephen Sellers recently wrote that no one needs to worry about climate change because God is in control. Wow! What a concept! I could not help but think that this would be the perfect solution for all those stressed-out MAGA- Republicans. There are so many "woke" issues that have them losing sleep. Think about the more than 2,000 who stormed the Capitol on Jan 6. These Trumpers were wound way too tightly. If they had only known that God was in control, they could have stayed home, avoided a criminal record, opened a brewski, and read the latest QAnon conspiracy theories. Instead, many of them will be sitting in jail when JFK appears.
Think of all the caterwauling by the MAGA-Republicans over those brown folks streaming across our Southern border. Why worry for heaven's sake! God is in control after all.
Many MAGA-Republicans are scared that their little white children might feel badly if they are taught the truth about some of the unseemly parts of America's past and the lasting effects of things like slavery, lynching, Jim Crow laws, police brutality, redlining, etc. I know that learning about racism can be unsettling for some folks, but just remember God has it all under control.
I understand that extending rights and offering acceptance to the LGBTQ community may make some MAGA folks feel icky, but just remember to chill out, God is in control!
So, unless you are a religious zealot who may welcome the destruction of the planet as the fulfillment of the apocalypse, the rest of us must listen to the science and take steps to prevent the worst of climate change.
