really dead?
To the editor:
A reply to Mrs. Loewen's letter to the editor on Nov. 26.
What's in a name? Do hippies still exist? I see some likely suspects every day. Is disco dead? I hear it on the radio. Is Elvis really dead? At least once a month I hear that somewhere, he just left the building.
Is "The Green New Deal" dead? Has it vanished? Hardly! The Build Back Better bill ($1.6 trillion) passed last November is stacked with infrastructure money to facilitate the expansion of "The Green New Deal" concepts. Biden would not have it any other way. A car charging station is coming to a neighborhood near you.
To say the Green New Deal is dead is to deny the reality of its effect at the gas pump, in your home's furnace and at your grocery store. Every energy decision by Biden has been introduced to enhance and perpetuate the Green New Deal. These measures have only a negative effect on America.
I don't care what you call it or if you deny it, the Green New Deal is alive and well, living as a cancer in our economy, thanks to Biden.

GOP defends guns
despite shootings
To the editor:
This is in response to Mr. Becht's letter of Nov. 2.
I totally agree with every word in his letter. The problem with the GOP, which I highlighted in my letter that was published on Nov. 19, is the hypocrisy that they show time and time again when it comes to mass and school shootings. All they offer is thoughts and prayers, which quite honestly do nothing.
The victims are still dead, their families devastated. The GOP only cares about using lies to vilify groups of people or, after the event, do nothing except take money from gun lobby groups like the NRA (all on public record) to vote against any bill or act that could prevent any more mass or school shootings from happening again.
Just look to the bill that would have increased funding for mental health in schools, which every single representative of the GOP voted against. We also only have to look at the response to your letter from two of the local GOP talking heads to see the hate filled rhetoric that the GOP loves to spew.
One responder claimed to feel sorry for the innocent victims. That is funny due to the fact that in previous conversations with the responder all he did was defend the right to own a gun and not the rights of the victims to live without fear of being killed by someone with a gun. He then goes on to say about more police being on the job.
Maybe the writer forgets but in the shooting in Uvalde, Texas -- cops were on the scene but did absolutely nothing for over an hour, again all public record. In fact, the police chief resigned due to the inactions that his officers performed while on the scene at Uvalde.
Mr. Becht is right to be angry and mad about the issue of mass shootings, every person in the U.S. should be. We should also be mad that only one party -- the Democrats -- want to do something to prevent shootings from happening while the other party only cares about guns and the right to own an object that is only made to kill. No member of the GOP has proven me wrong on that.
