To the editor:
The Living section in the Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 29-30, edition of The Sentinel proved to be absolutely delightful.
All too often, negative comments are made about young people: their alleged inadequacies, thoughtlessness, lack of common sense and intelligence -- and the list goes on. I would invite people who make such comments to read "All In For Athletics," "Social Media Use Should Be Taught," and "'Teen' TV Shows Have a Message."
The six students who wrote these articles possess the ability to synthesize research, to think critically, to write cohesively, to collaborate and to offer their perspectives with courage.
As a retired high school English teacher and Penn State writing instructor, I express my appreciation to these students for their hard work and dedication to the written word, my gratitude to their teachers who obviously have provided excellent opportunities for them to engage in writing and who taught them to write well, and my respect for their parents who have evidently provided an atmosphere which promotes free thought and critical thinking.
Also, thank you to The Sentinel for highlighting the refreshing work of high school students.
