It is a great pleasure to thank so many people for their volunteerism and contributions to the Reedsville Community Association's sixth annual Apple Festival held on Sept. 17.
Many people help bring the day's events together with planning and hands on work. The snitzing crew included Dave, Jeff, Neil, Leonard, Missy, Carol, Ruth, Keri, Valeria, Sid, Teri, Jim and Jan. The overnight apple butter makers were Loren, Levi, Mark, Jethro, Gerald, Danny, and Rich.
Working the Association booth were Jo Ann, Josh, Cassandra, Chelsea, Liz and Lindsay. Valerie, Keri and Natalie organized the Little Miss and Mr. Reedsville contest and wish to thank the businesses who provided prizes. They include Back Mountain Flowers, Reedsville Creamery, Tribe Five Boutique, Batter and Dough Bake Shop, Brown Township, Bohn Furniture, Toots' Market, and Art by Kenna. Judges Karen, Chris and Andi along with emcee Mark.
A first-time amateur apple pie baking contest was a huge success. Thirteen pies were entered and judged by Quintin Wicks, Johnny Millett, and Betty Lawhead. Mary Hostetler was the Champion Pie Baker and runner up was Liza Heckman. Prizes donated for this event were provided by Re/Max Together, Shy Bear, The Corner Vault, JP Edwards and East End Coffee.
Big Valley Antique Center and Kish Bank shared their financial support along with the Leroy Kauffman family and Scott Pecht who provided apple butter kettles, and Metzler Forest Products for supplying the firewood.
Mifflin County High School Drama Club and The Academy of Science and Technology Early Education program both held children's activities.
Thank you to Brown Township Supervisors for maintaining the lovely Bender Park where this annual event is held.
