To the editor:
This is in response to James Martin's letter published on Oct. 26.
He claims that the Right's candidate has been misrepresented by two campaign ads. What Mr. Martin did not do was name that candidate well I will: Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate.
I would like to compare the lies that the Right have told about the Left's candidate, John Fetterman, to those truths that the GOP want to dismiss and claim to be untrue that have been mentioned in the media about their candidate, Dr. Oz.
John Fetterman believes that women have the right to choose what is done to their bodies and that no one other that the woman's doctor should have a say. Dr. Oz on the other hand wants big government to control what a woman does with her body, and sorry Dr. Oz fans, but a woman's womb is part of her body. Dr. Oz and the RNC has made the claim that John Fetterman wants to eliminate life sentences for murderers -- this is not true. John Fetterman wants to eliminate mandatory life sentences for people convicted of second degree murder.
Another claim that the RNC make is that John Fetterman wants to legalize heroin -- again not true. Back in 2015 John Fetterman stated that he wanted to decriminalize all drugs. Legalizing and decriminalizing are two different things. Oz also stated that Fetterman wants to release a third of all prisoners. All that Fetterman did was agree with a statement that the state's former corrections secretary said, which was that Pa. could release a third of prisoners without endangering public safety. A big difference between could and wants, would you not agree?
So, Mr. Martin, if you want to make the claim that the claims against Dr. Oz are untrue at least do so in claims that are not that easy to find proof on.
