To the editor:
I have noticed that from time to time a "Letter to the Editor" is responded to by a reader; I'm sure many of you have seen this too.
The response may be for a variety of reasons ranging from support of or opposition to the letter's main thesis.
The responder may offer additional facts that bolster the original writer's ideas or opinions; conversely the responder may offer evidence that not only refutes but completely disproves ideas put forth as fact by the original writer.
In so much as the editor recently wrote an editorial calling on readers to be more curious, I ask this question. I see a great deal of misinformation responded to by readers; why is it that I seldom if ever see these so called "Letters to the Editor" responded to be the editor?
I have a working hypothesis as to why but would like some opinions.
